Subject: Have you tried these library search techniques?
<p>Searching in the library for academic research is quite different from doing everyday research on the web, and it helps if you know a few tricks and techniques commonly used in academic databases. Your UAGC Librarians have a guide to help you learn different techniques to use when searching in the database called the <a class="inline_disabled" href="https://content.bridgepointeducation.com/curriculum/file/7b861488-a943-4ca1-a604-a815cb63f323/1/Advanced%20Search%20Techniques%20accessible.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Advanced Search Techniques</strong></a> tip sheet.</p> <p><a class="inline_disabled" href="https://content.bridgepointeducation.com/curriculum/file/7b861488-a943-4ca1-a604-a815cb63f323/1/Advanced%20Search%20Techniques%20accessible.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" src="/users/126656/files/22311767/preview?verifier=EYfG5wh2OSjtFAVdR50nMoMYdwBToag1kggWRKrq" alt="A thumb nail of the advanced search techniques tip sheet." /></a></p> <p>For example, did you know that if you put an asterisk (*) at the end of a common word stem, such as <strong><em>psychol*</em></strong> and search for it in the database, you will broaden your search to capture all the variations of that word stem, such as <strong><em>psychology, psychological, psychologist,</em></strong> etc.? This technique is called <em>truncation</em>, and it can be useful to expand your search for academic papers or resources on a specific topic.</p> <p>The more you practice searching in the UAGC Library, the easier it will be to find good results. Give a few of these techniques a try the next time you are doing research. And remember, if at any point you get stuck, you can always reach out to a live librarian through the 24/7 Library Tutoring button on the homepage, or by emailing <a href="mailto:library@uagc.edu" target="_blank" rel="noopener">library@uagc.edu</a>.</p>
